Description

Kobe is famous for its “Ten-Million-Dollar Night View” from the top of Mt. Rokko. But it’s not just after dark that you’ll want to visit. Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens sits at the top of the Shin-Kobe Ropeway cable car, and is replete with 75,000 herbs and flowers from 200 species.

Japan’s largest herb garden is a dramatic 10-minute cable car ride from Sanroku Station, during which you’ll be able to take in the sights of Japan’s famous port city. When you arrive at the top, you’ll be presented with a picturesque cafe and restaurant serving creations made with the garden’s herbs, including an original herb tea.

The garden itself is split into 12 areas, which follow a winding path down the mountain. The Rose Symphony Garden features around 60 roses, many hailing from England, in all shapes, colors, and sizes. The Fragrant Garden focuses on the best-smelling herbs, and is reminiscent of the European countryside. The Herb Museum includes meticulous labeling to teach visitors about the plants’ characteristics.

Experience a classic kitchen garden with vegetables and herbs in the Potager area, then visit the Glasshouse for a greenhouse full of fruits and spices. The Lavender Garden pays tribute to the “Queen of Herbs,” with lavender-picking available every June.

Enjoy a new sight every time you visit the Four Seasons Garden, which also features benches and hammocks for a quick break on the lawns. The Waterfall Patio mirrors the nearby Nunobiki Falls, which are visible from the Ropeway.

Next, the Oriental Garden introduces you to indigenous Japanese and Asian plants which have been used for centuries in cooking, medicine, and crafts. The Lily Garden features blooms of this famous flower, and finally the Kaze no Oka Flower Garden lets you gaze out upon Kobe from a gentle field of flowers.
