Description
The Kanmon Straits, also called the Kanmon Kaikyo or the Straits of Shimonoseki, is the waterway that separates Japanβs islands of Honshu and Kyushu. Since ancient times, this strait has been a major historical stage where the past and future intersect.
The Kanmon Straits Museum reopened in September 2019, after major renovations. The main building is an experiential museum, full of creativity and playfulness where you can encounter dramatic memories and lively, realistic figures. Here, you can enjoy spectacular image projections on one of the largest screens in the country, and experience a range of performances related to the nature and history of the Kanmon Straits. There is also a cafe which offers a sweeping view of the Straits.
