The Shunkaen Bonsai Museum opened in 2002 in Tokyo’s Edogawa Ward. Tucked away in a residential area, the museum offers a secluded atmosphere to enjoy bonsai in peace. But don’t let the name “museum” fool you — this is a place of living beauty!

In this activity, you will get to handle a bonsai yourself, and learn something about the great care and precision required to care for it.

After your bonsai experience, take a brief tour of the museum with your host, and learn about the miniature man-made forest that stands as a bubble of serenity in the frantic capital.

When the tour is done, spend as long as you wish in the musuem. Experience the splendor of these artful expressions of natural beauty and the harshness of nature hidden within it.
