Description
Manet, Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Signac, Utrillo…
From Germany: a lineage of innovation in modern painting history.
The Wallraf-Richartz Museum & Fondation Corboud in Cologne, Germany boasts one of Europe’s most significant collections in both quality and scale, comprising approximately 70,000 works spanning from the Middle Ages to Post-Impressionism. Its origins trace back to 1824, when the collection of Ferdinand Franz Wallraf, a professor and theologian at the University of Cologne, was bequeathed to the city. The museum officially opened in 1861 following a donation from businessman Johann Heinrich Richartz.
Despite suffering damage during World War II, the collection was rebuilt and expanded through the efforts of local citizens. In 2001, the museum relocated to a new building, and with the addition of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works donated by the Fondation Corboud, the collection gained even greater depth.
All works are from the collection of the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud, Cologne
