Overview
At Unzen, in Japan's longest-established national park, a magnificent story spanning 500,000 years unfolds.
This spring, an all-new digital night event debuts, blending Unzen’s stunning natural beauty with an enchanting storybook world. Experience a spectacle of light and sound created through dynamic projection mapping, and the powerful breath of the volcano rising from the Earth’s core with all five senses.
Some 500,000 years ago, “Unzen Jigoku" (Unzen Hell) was born from the eruption of Mt. Unzen. Volcanic gases — the essence of Earth's life force — continue to rise in a dynamic landscape ever-changing since time immemorial.
Enjoy an immersive night walk tracing the path of the “hells” as they have shifted over the vastness of time. Along the way, yokai (supernatural beings) of ancient legend appear as stunning digital art. Discover stories of mystical beings living alongside the volcano, and step into a fantastical world to captivate visitors of all ages.
